The Ministry of Education has released the official academic calendar for the year 2025, outlining important dates for schools across the country. The calendar includes term dates, half-term breaks, and exam schedules for various educational assessments, including the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA), Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), Kenya Prevocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA), and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Education (KCSE).
Schools are set to reopen for Term 1 on January 6, 2025. This marks the beginning of the academic year for both primary and secondary schools in Kenya. The term will last for 13 weeks, concluding on April 4, 2025. This first term is crucial for laying the foundation for the year’s academic goals, and students are expected to engage in intense learning, with a break in between for the half-term.
In between this term, there will be a five-day half-term break from February 26 to March 2, 2025. This break offers students a chance to rest and refresh before returning to their studies. Half-term breaks have become an important part of the school calendar, allowing students to catch up on assignments and prepare for the second half of the term.
The calendar also highlights the various examination schedules that students will follow throughout the year. For students in different educational levels, including primary, intermediate, and secondary, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has set out specific dates for their respective assessments. The dates for the KPSEA, KILEA, KJSEA, KPLEA, and KCSE exams are aligned with the academic terms to ensure that all students have adequate preparation time before their final evaluations.
As schools begin the year, teachers, parents, and students alike are encouraged to stay informed and prepared for the term’s academic demands. The 2025 academic year promises to be eventful, with significant milestones ahead, particularly for candidates sitting for national exams.
