Wendy Williams, the renowned talk show host, has found herself at the center of a family crisis as she battles serious health conditions under the guardianship of Sabrina Morrissey. As Williams turned 60 this week, her family claims they have been “largely denied contact” with her, raising concerns about her well-being and the guardianship system in place.
Williams, who was diagnosed last year with primary progressive aphasia—a rare neurological condition that affects communication—and frontotemporal dementia, which impacts personality, behavior, and language, has been placed under guardianship due to her declining health. However, her family has expressed their frustration and heartbreak over the lack of communication and updates regarding her condition.
According to a report by PEOPLE Magazine, Williams’ family is currently unable to speak on her current condition and location due to ongoing litigation. They state, “Wendy Williams’s family is unable to speak on her current condition and location due to ongoing litigation and the fact that they have largely been denied contact. But they are all rooting and praying for Wendy and want to express their well wishes as she celebrates her 60th birthday. She was, is, and always will be an icon.”
The family’s distress was further highlighted by Wendy’s sister, Wanda Finnie, who revealed that she was not informed of her sister’s diagnosis after Williams was placed in a facility for treatment of cognitive issues. Finnie claims that since Wendy spent time with them in Florida in 2021, the family has received no updates on her condition.
“When she was in Florida, there were a number of people involved. Even beyond family, there were doctors involved, people in Wendy’s professional world that were involved. She had a health team in place, nurses in place and she had family in place. She was getting healthier,” Finnie shared with PEOPLE. “How did she go from this aunt or sister that we love and is healthy one minute to this person who’s in and out of the hospital? How is that system better than the system the family could put in place? I don’t know. I do know that this system is broken. I hope that at some point, Wendy becomes strong enough where she can speak on her own behalf.”
The guardianship arrangement, designed to protect Wendy’s health and interests, has become a point of contention, with the family feeling that their involvement and communication could contribute positively to her recovery and well-being. The ongoing litigation and restricted access have left them in the dark, fueling their concerns about her treatment and overall state.
As Wendy Williams marks her 60th birthday, her family continues to hope for her strength and recovery, while the situation underscores the complexities and emotional challenges that can arise in guardianship cases involving loved ones with serious health conditions. The public, fans, and her family remain united in their prayers and well wishes for Wendy, hoping she will one day be able to speak out and reconnect with those who care deeply for her.
