Mark Otieno Eyes Olympic Dream at Africa Senior Championships

As the Africa Senior Athletics Championships approach, former national champion Mark Otieno remains steadfast in his pursuit of Olympic qualification. Set to take place in Douala, Cameroon, from June 15 to 25, this continental showpiece represents Otieno’s latest opportunity to secure a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Otieno’s journey to this point has been marked by determination and incremental progress. He recently secured his qualification for the Africa Senior Athletics Championships by finishing second in the men’s 100m final at the trials held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex. Clocking in at 10.37 seconds, he was narrowly edged out by Kenya Defense Forces officer Meshack Babu, who posted an impressive time of 10.34 seconds.

Despite the close finish, Otieno remains optimistic and focused on his goal. “I am taking baby steps and maintaining my focus,” he said, reflecting on his ongoing journey toward Olympic qualification. His performance at the trials has earned him the potential to represent Kenya in Cameroon, where he will have another chance to chase his Olympic dream and possibly be crowned African Champion.

As the championships draw nearer, all eyes will be on Otieno and his quest for Olympic glory. His relentless dedication and recent performances suggest that he is more than ready to seize the opportunity. Whether he secures his Olympic berth or not, his journey continues to inspire many aspiring athletes across the continent.
