Telecom Egypt and SubCom Complete Egypt Landings for IEX Subsea Cable System

Telecom Egypt, a leading full-service telecom operator and prominent player in the subsea cable industry, in collaboration with SubCom, a global subsea data system supplier, and the India-Europe-Xpress (IEX) partners, has announced the successful completion of the IEX Subsea Cable System landings in Egypt. This landmark project marks a significant milestone in global connectivity, linking India and Europe through a state-of-the-art subsea cable system.

The IEX Subsea system, which features landings at two strategic cable landing stations in Egypt—Zafarana2 on the Red Sea and Sidi Kerir on the Mediterranean—bridges two seas and continents via two diversified trans-Egypt terrestrial crossing routes. Once fully operational, the IEX will directly connect Mumbai, India, to Milan, Italy, enhancing route diversity and enabling the delivery of advanced, high-capacity services to meet the surging global digital demand.

Telecom Egypt played a crucial role in facilitating the cable landing process, ensuring a smooth, rapid, and flexible local cycle for permits, approvals, and landing-related logistics. The company provided the necessary landing facilities and support for the IEX system in Egypt, alongside establishing new diverse terrestrial crossings between these facilities. Each segment of the IEX system is designed for high-capacity transmission, boasting 13 fiber pairs to accommodate the ever-growing data traffic.
