Police in Embu County have launched investigations into the mysterious death of 35-year-old Administration Police (AP) officer Collins Wafula, whose body was discovered along the Manyatta-Kianjokoma road on Friday morning.
Embu North OCPD Benjamin Kiprono confirmed the incident, revealing that Wafula was attached to the Embu North Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) headquarters. The officer was last seen leaving an end-of-year party held at the DCC offices on Thursday evening, before reportedly heading towards Kianjokoma.
Sources indicate that Wafula joined a group for drinks at Jambo Lodge after the party. However, the chain of events following his departure from the lodge remains murky. His lifeless body was discovered early Friday by a passer-by in the Kavutiri area, who immediately notified authorities.
“It is unclear at this stage whether this was a hit-and-run accident or a case of foul play where the body may have been dumped on the road,” Kiprono stated.
The OCPD urged residents with any relevant information to come forward, stressing the importance of community cooperation in aiding the investigation.
The incident has left the local community in shock, as Wafula was reportedly a well-known figure in the area due to his duties at the DCC offices. His death raises concerns about safety and security during social events and festive gatherings.
Initial observations by police did not reveal obvious signs of physical trauma that would definitively point to an accident or murder. The body has since been moved to Embu Level Five Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Wafula’s colleagues, who attended the party, described him as a jovial person who actively participated in the celebrations. “He was in high spirits and didn’t show any signs of distress,” one officer recounted, adding that his sudden demise was shocking and tragic.
Authorities are expected to review CCTV footage from the DCC offices and other establishments Wafula visited that evening in a bid to trace his movements and identify potential leads.
As the investigation unfolds, the Embu North police appeal for patience and cooperation from the public to ensure a comprehensive probe into the officer’s untimely death.
