In Nairobi, law enforcement officials detained a young individual after a video circulated on social media depicting them assaulting a police officer in Mirema, Nairobi County.
The viral footage captured a 19-year-old driver assaulting the officer, who ended up in a ditch as a result.
Following the incident, authorities located and interrogated the motorist overnight.
Footage from the interrogation suggested the driver faced mistreatment and verbal abuse from the police.
During questioning, the teenager claimed innocence, stating it was his first altercation with law enforcement and accused the officer of demanding excessive bribes.
Additional video evidence showed the suspect’s arrest while driving a white car, with police suspecting he was in Mirema for nightlife activities.
Reports revealed the suspect had ties to a gang in Mwiki and was facing multiple court cases.
According to initial reports, the altercation began when the traffic officer stopped the driver for traffic violations, leading to a confrontation where the driver brandished a weapon, forcing the officer out of the vehicle.
The police report confirmed the officer sustained injuries during the assault and was promptly taken to a nearby health facility by onlookers. Subsequently, the officer was transferred to Mama Lucy Hospital for further medical attention.
