In a targeted operation aimed at dismantling a notorious armed gang plaguing Bomet, Kericho, and Nakuru counties, authorities have apprehended two suspected members notorious for electronic fraud.
Kevin Kiplangat, alias Elvis, aged 31, and Evan Kiprotich Chirchir, alias Protio, aged 22, were apprehended in Mulot and Chepalungu areas of Bomet, respectively, marking a significant breakthrough in the fight against organized crime.
Led by detectives from DCI Headquarters, the operation comes in response to a surge in complaints regarding sim swap fraud orchestrated by the gang, known for its violent tactics and ongoing court battles across the nation.
The arrested suspects, currently held at Litein Police Station, await identification parades and arraignment in Kericho Law Courts for their involvement in a violent robbery reported on December 29, 2023. Following this, they will face further processing for electronic fraud cases reported at various stations.
