Get ready for a comedic ride as two of Kenya’s most beloved TV personalities, Awinja and Osoro, return to the small screen in the much-anticipated comedy series Sumbua Sacco. Set in the vibrant Lumumba Estate, the show is packed with humor, hustle, and heart. Premiering on February 7th at 7:30 pm on Maisha Magic Plus, Sumbua Sacco is the latest TV sensation, offering a unique take on Nairobi’s notorious matatu culture.
The show follows Awinja, portrayed by Jackie Vike (known for her role in Click Click Bang), and Osoro, played by Cyprian Osoro (of 4 Better 4 Worse). The couple, both broke yet full of ambition, finds their fortunes change when Awinja hits it big, enabling them to purchase a matatu. However, as with any great success story, their journey is filled with challenges.
What starts as a dream come true quickly turns into a chaotic reality as Awinja and Osoro navigate the unruly world of matatu life. From rowdy passengers to corrupt officials and mounting debts, the couple faces a whirlwind of obstacles. Their resilience, boldness, and comedic antics bring to life the hustle that many Nairobians can relate to, all while keeping audiences laughing.
Produced by A-Wish Productions, the team behind the popular show Disco Matanga, Sumbua Sacco showcases a stellar cast, including the talented Humphrey Maina (Lies That Bind), Jimmy Ouma (Haki Mwitu), Kauthar Kang’ethe (Volume), and twins Nelly & Jane Wanjiku (Zora). Together, they create a captivating, high-energy atmosphere that brings the matatu culture to life.
The show’s journey from a viral online skit to a full-fledged TV series is a testament to the rich stories that lie within Kenya’s bustling matatu industry. Producer Lawrence Murage shares, “The show started from an online skit with Awinja and Osoro, and after realizing the depth of stories in matatu culture, we decided to make it a TV series. It’s all about entertaining and letting viewers enjoy the ride.”
Margaret Mathore, Channel Head at Maisha Magic Plus, adds, “We’re thrilled to bring Awinja and Osoro to Maisha Magic. Their humor resonates deeply with our audience, and we believe Sumbua Sacco will be a hit.”
With new episodes every Friday, viewers can join Awinja and Osoro on their bumpy journey through the ups and downs of Nairobi’s matatu world. Don’t miss the premiere of Sumbua Sacco on February 7th at 7:30 pm, exclusively on Maisha Magic Plus (DStv channel 163 / GOtv channel 3).
