Members of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, led by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, firmly rejected the prospect of joining the Kenya Kwanza administration’s proposed broad-based government of national unity. The coalition’s stance reflects a deep-seated commitment to their ideological principles and a strong opposition to the current government’s policies.
The rejection came after overtures from the Kenya Kwanza administration, which sought to include Azimio parties such as Jubilee, Democratic Action Party (DAP) Kenya, and Party of National Unity (PNU) in a broader government framework. The Kenya Kwanza administration’s proposal was intended to foster inclusivity and unity in the governance of the country.
Kalonzo Musyoka, speaking on behalf of the Azimio affiliate parties, articulated a resolute stance against joining the Kenya Kwanza government. He described the move as a potential “betrayal” of the Kenyan people, particularly the younger generations—Gen Z and millennials—who have played a crucial role in advocating for change and opposing the current administration.
Musyoka criticized the Kenya Kwanza regime for its perceived failures, including harsh taxation policies, controversial Finance Bills of 2023 and 2024, rampant corruption, tribalism, and rising unemployment rates. He also pointed to the high cost of living as a significant burden on the Kenyan populace. According to Musyoka, aligning with a government that embodies these issues would contradict the core values and principles of the Azimio coalition.
The Azimio coalition’s decision underscores a broader discontent with the current administration and a commitment to maintaining political and ideological integrity. By rejecting the proposed unity government, the Azimio members are signaling their intention to continue challenging the Kenya Kwanza administration’s policies and advocating for alternative solutions that align with their vision for Kenya’s future.
This development highlights the ongoing political divide in Kenya and sets the stage for continued debate and negotiation as the country navigates its complex political landscape.
