Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has thrown down the gauntlet to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and President William Ruto, urging them to organize a rally specifically for Generation Z at Nyayo Stadium.
Owino expressed his views regarding the controversial Financial Bill and the subsequent appeal by Gachagua for MPs aligned with the ruling coalition to be forgiven. The lawmaker made a bold proposition, calling for the country’s top leaders to face the youth directly.
“President Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua should call for a rally at Nyayo Stadium for Gen Zs and they should come on foot, stand at the center of the field, and ask for forgiveness from there,” Owino asserted.
The dare comes in the wake of significant public discontent over the Financial Bill, which has sparked widespread debate and criticism. Owino’s challenge underscores the growing demand for accountability and direct communication between the government and the younger generation.
Owino’s statement suggests a belief that engaging with Generation Z, a demographic known for its vocal activism and influence on social media, could be a crucial step for the government. This move, according to Owino, would demonstrate genuine contrition and a willingness to address the concerns of the youth.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, the response from Ruto and Gachagua to Owino’s challenge will be closely watched. Whether they accept the dare and engage with Gen Z in such a public and symbolic manner could set a precedent for future interactions between the government and its younger constituents.
