President William Ruto has appointed Benson Mutura as the new chairperson of the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NaMATA) Board. This appointment aims to enhance the efficiency and integration of transportation systems within the Nairobi Metropolitan Area, which includes the counties of Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, Machakos, and Murang’a.
Mutura’s leadership is expected to be instrumental in addressing the region’s transportation challenges. He will oversee the development of a Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), which is designed to alleviate traffic congestion and improve public transportation services for residents across the metropolitan area.
President Ruto’s Additional Appointments
President William Ruto has made further notable appointments:
- Mohamed Said Rajab has been appointed as the non-executive chairperson of the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO. He will serve a three-year term starting from May 24, 2024.
- Dr. Ningala Kalachu has been named the new chairperson of the Council of the Veterinary Medicines Directorate. President Ruto stated, “I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, appoint Dr. Ningala Kalachu as the Chairperson of the Council of the Veterinary Medicines Directorate for a period of three years.” This appointment is effective from May 24, 2024.
- General Charles Muriu Kahariri has been appointed as the Chairperson of the National Museums of Kenya. Additionally, he will serve on the Steering Committee for the Taskforce on the Development of the Kenya Home of Human Origins Museum and Science Park in the Lake Turkana Basin. This appointment replaces General Francis Omondi Ogolla, whose previous appointment has been revoked.
