Singer Bien Aime Baraza has weighed in on the growing controversy surrounding city car dealer Khalif Kairo, who has been embroiled in a series of legal issues related to his car-shipping company, Kai and Karo. In a candid video shared on social media platform X, Bien delivered a stern message to Kairo, urging him to focus on his work instead of making unnecessary public statements.
“Shut up! Shut up Khalif. Nyamaza Kairo, wacha kazi iongee,” Bien declared, advising the embattled car dealer to let his actions speak louder than his words. Bien, known for his hit song “Lifestyle,” expressed sympathy for Kairo but also warned him about the perils of fame and public scrutiny. “Imagine at the beginning of the year, no one knows you, then all of a sudden, you are the most famous person in town—it does things to you,” he said. Bien emphasized that Kairo’s newfound celebrity status may have influenced his actions, urging him to refocus on building his reputation through hard work rather than online outbursts.
Bien’s comments followed a similar sentiment expressed by Geoffrey Mosiria, Nairobi City County’s Chief Officer of Environment. Mosiria cautioned young people against living beyond their means in an effort to impress others. “The obsession with luxury and public displays of wealth has misled many young men into dangerous financial decisions, all to maintain an illusion of success,” Mosiria said. He also pointed to Kairo’s current situation, where the businessman is facing multiple charges related to fraud and undelivered vehicles, as a prime example of the consequences of living beyond one’s financial means.
Kairo, who is currently facing fresh fraud charges, was accused of fraudulently obtaining Ksh.3 million for the importation of high-end vehicles. Despite the legal troubles, Kairo sought release on a personal bond of Ksh.3 million, citing the need to travel to the USA to raise funds for his business. The court granted his application, noting that his passport indicated frequent international travel.
The combined warnings from Bien and Mosiria serve as a stark reminder of the importance of financial discipline and the dangers of succumbing to the pressures of quick success. Kairo’s legal woes highlight the risks of reckless business practices and the fleeting nature of fame when not grounded in solid work and integrity.
