The body of Justus Mutumwa Musyimi, one of the three men from Mlolongo who went missing in December 2024, has been discovered in Ruai and moved to City Mortuary in Nairobi. The family’s lawyer, Senator Dan Maanzo, confirmed the development in court on Thursday, expressing concerns over the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and death of Musyimi.
Musyimi, along with Martin Mwau and Karani Muema, was reportedly abducted on December 16, 2024, under mysterious circumstances, and their whereabouts had remained unknown for weeks. The family, which has been seeking answers, identified the body of Mutumwa on Thursday. A preliminary search confirmed that it belonged to the missing man, a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing case.
Senator Maanzo, representing the family, demanded a thorough investigation into the events leading up to Musyimi’s death. The cause of death remains unclear, and an autopsy is scheduled to establish the details of how he died. The family is particularly concerned about the circumstances surrounding his body’s discovery and the lack of clarity regarding the deaths of the other two men, who are still missing.
This revelation came during a court hearing in which the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, and Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, appeared to address the missing persons’ case. Both Kanja and Amin denied that the missing men were in police custody, stressing that investigations are ongoing. They assured the court that they are not involved in the abductions and expressed their commitment to investigating the matter.
Kanja also reassured the public of their safety, stating that security measures were heightened during the festive season, ensuring the safety of citizens. He emphasized that the country remains safe, despite the disturbing reports of abduction.
In response, State Prosecutor Mark Baraza confirmed that the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has forwarded the case to the Inspector General for further investigation. Baraza assured the court that the DPP expects the results of the investigation soon, emphasizing that the allegations of abduction must be thoroughly examined.
As the investigation continues, the family of Justus Mutumwa Musyimi and the wider community await answers, with many calling for transparency and accountability in the handling of this case.
