A Boeing aircraft departing from Los Angeles lost a wheel on Monday in another in a series of safety concerns for the aerospace company.
The Boeing 757-200, operated by United Airlines, lost the wheel after departing from Los Angeles International Airport but landed safely in Denver, its intended destination.
United Airlines stated, “The wheel has been recovered in Los Angeles, and we are investigating what caused this event.”
No injuries were reported among the 174 passengers and seven crew members on board or on the ground. This incident comes after another Boeing plane, operated by United Airlines, lost a wheel shortly after takeoff in March.
Boeing has come under scrutiny recently, having agreed to plead guilty to fraud in a settlement with the US Department of Justice over two fatal 737 MAX crashes. Additionally, a Boeing 777 bound for Japan experienced a tire falling off after takeoff from San Francisco in March, leading to an emergency landing.
In January, a fuselage door plug blew out on the same model during an Alaska Airlines flight, contributing to the attention on the aircraft.
A Boeing spokesperson confirmed that the 757-200 aircraft that departed on Monday was first delivered 30 years ago in 1994. The production of the 757 model was discontinued in 2004.
The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating Monday’s incident.
