Tension is mounting in Bungoma County as residents of Kimabole, in the Mt. Elgon area, have threatened to disrupt learning activities at Kimabole Secondary School. The discontent stems from frequent changes in the school’s management, which parents claim are adversely affecting their children’s education.
The crisis emerged after the retirement of the long-serving head teacher, David Ogolla. According to residents, Ogolla’s replacement, appointed in an acting capacity, was reassigned almost immediately after taking office. Another individual was subsequently recommended to take over the position, leaving the community frustrated.
Wilfred Musamali, a parent at the school, expressed his dissatisfaction with the persistent disruptions. “When Ogolla retired, a new teacher was sent to head the school in an acting capacity. However, we were shocked to hear that he was reassigned shortly after taking office, and someone else was recommended to take his place. We don’t understand why,” he said.
The residents argue that the frequent changes in leadership are negatively impacting the school’s performance, which they say has been declining steadily. Musamali added that the community would not accept the current trend, calling for an end to what he described as instability caused by mismanagement.
Chrisandos Makhoha, another parent, called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to address the issue decisively. “TSC should do its work without any interference because the disruptions are affecting the performance of our children,” he stated.
The locals also directed their grievances at the Bungoma County government, accusing it of nepotism and failing to prioritize local residents for employment opportunities. They urged political leaders to avoid favoritism in appointments, warning that the ongoing frustrations could escalate if their concerns are not addressed.
Adding to the community’s distress is a recent security issue in the area. Locals have called for a thorough investigation following the killing of a young girl in Kimabole. They have urged security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice and to enhance safety in the region.
The combined issues of school mismanagement and security concerns have heightened tensions in the area, with parents warning that they will take further action if the TSC and county government do not resolve the problems.
The Kimabole Secondary School saga highlights the importance of stable leadership in education and the need for government agencies to address community grievances swiftly. As learning remains on the brink of disruption, the onus is now on the TSC and local authorities to restore confidence and ensure stability in the school’s management.
For now, the students’ future remains uncertain as the residents demand lasting solutions to the crises plaguing their community.
