Police in Chesikaki, Mt. Elgon, Bungoma County, are investigating a harrowing incident where a man allegedly beat his daughter to death. Maurice Toto, 41, is accused of attacking his 23-year-old daughter, Esther Nasimiyu, on Thursday night following a heated family disagreement.
Nasimiyu’s lifeless body was discovered in her room on Friday around noon, bearing multiple injuries inflicted by a blunt object, according to police reports. The incident has left the Chesikaki community in shock as they come to terms with the tragic loss of a young life.
Speaking about the case, area chief Morris Wetala confirmed the incident and condemned the use of excessive force in resolving family disputes. “We urge parents to adopt alternative disciplinary measures instead of resorting to violence,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and understanding in addressing conflicts within families.
The clash between Toto and his daughter reportedly escalated over an unspecified family matter. Investigators are working to piece together the events leading to the tragedy, seeking to determine whether it was a one-time outburst or part of a pattern of abuse.
Toto is currently in custody at Chesikaki Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. Meanwhile, Nasimiyu’s body has been transferred to Sante Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The case has reignited debates about the dangers of corporal punishment and the importance of mental health awareness in managing family disputes. Community leaders and local organizations are calling for increased education on conflict resolution and parenting strategies to prevent such incidents from recurring.
As the investigation continues, the community mourns the untimely death of Nasimiyu, whose promising life was cut short by a tragic act of violence. This case serves as a grim reminder of the need for greater efforts in fostering peaceful and respectful relationships within families.
