Charlene Ruto Embraces ‘Bottom-Up’ Model in Beekeeping Business

Charlene Ruto, daughter of President William Ruto, has adopted her father’s ‘Bottom-Up’ economic model in her beekeeping venture. During a visit to her farm in Eldoret, Charlene shared insights on honey production, noting that pasteurized honey, which is smooth and slightly darker, is often referred to as “dead honey” due to nutrient loss during pasteurization. In contrast, unpasteurized honey retains more nutrients, is lighter in color, and crystallizes over time. In a recent tweet, Charlene highlighted an amusing discovery where some bees had occupied a hive that was set upside down, showcasing the dynamic and often unpredictable nature of beekeeping.
