CIB Kenya has announced the appointment of Abhinav Nehra as its new Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, effective immediately. Nehra brings with him a wealth of experience in banking and payments, with over 30 years of leadership in Africa, Asia, and emerging markets. His appointment comes at a crucial time as the bank seeks to accelerate its growth and deepen its commitment to financial inclusion and innovation in Kenya’s dynamic banking sector.
Throughout his illustrious career, Nehra has held key leadership roles at some of the world’s most renowned financial institutions. He has been a driving force behind significant transformations at CitiGroup, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Network International, and Ecobank Transnational. In his tenure at Ecobank, Nehra managed the restructuring of the group’s retail and commercial banking portfolio, overseeing operations in 34 African countries. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in expanding UBA’s retail financial services, growing its footprint from just two to 16 markets.
Perhaps most notably, Nehra led the largest “Payment as a Service” company in Africa, Network International, and was instrumental in building CitiFinancial India into the most profitable consumer finance franchise within CitiGroup across emerging markets. His track record in driving growth and enhancing customer experience will be vital as he takes on the leadership of CIB Kenya.
Tom Gitogo, Chairman of CIB Kenya’s Board, expressed strong confidence in Nehra’s ability to lead the bank into its next phase of success. “Abhinav Nehra is a proven leader with an unparalleled track record of driving growth and innovation. His expertise and strategic vision are exactly what CIB Kenya needs to deliver value to our clients and achieve our ambitious goals,” Gitogo said.
In his first public statement since his appointment, Nehra shared his excitement about the new role and the opportunities ahead for CIB Kenya. “I am honoured to join CIB Kenya and excited to lead the bank into its next phase of growth. Together with the talented team here, we will focus on delivering innovative solutions that enhance our clients’ financial experience, foster financial inclusion, and make a meaningful impact in Kenya’s dynamic banking landscape,” Nehra stated.
As CIB Kenya continues to expand its footprint in the market, Nehra’s leadership is expected to help the bank further enhance its digital offerings, broaden its reach, and solidify its position as a key player in the Kenyan banking sector. With a proven track record of success in Africa and beyond, Nehra is poised to lead the bank into a new era of growth and innovation.
