As part of the government’s comprehensive outreach strategy to inform the public about the Fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP IV) for 2023-27, CS Mithika Linturi, alongside Principal Secretary for Petroleum Mohammed Liban and Isiolo Deputy Governor Dr. James Lowasa, undertook a visit to Isiolo earlier today.
The CS emphasized the importance of garnering support and involvement from all stakeholders nationwide for the successful execution of MTP IV. To ensure active citizen engagement, it is imperative to raise awareness about the government’s initiatives, its commitments for the medium term, and the positive outcomes anticipated for the well-being of Kenyans.
Under the Fourth Medium Term Plan, the government aims to enhance production across various sectors, adopting a value chain approach. Priority sectors include leather and leather products, textiles and apparel, dairy, tea, rice, edible oils, the blue economy, minerals, forestry, construction, and building materials.
Key strategies will focus on promoting agro-processing, strengthening extension services, ensuring accessibility to quality and affordable farm inputs, fostering cooperative development and management, improving market access and logistical support, expanding irrigation infrastructure, implementing climate-smart agriculture practices, increasing agricultural financing, and advancing agricultural mechanization research and development.
Later in the day, the CS engaged with residents of Meru County, along with county leadership and national government stakeholders, during the launch of the dissemination of the Fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP IV) for 2023-27.
During the session, the public was briefed on the objectives and initiatives outlined in the MTP IV, and their feedback was welcomed. The CS highlighted various opportunities within the ministry, including initiatives to reduce animal feed costs, the implementation of the sexed semen program, efforts to improve the value of hides and skins, and funding opportunities available under the DRIVE and KelCoP projects, among others.
