A tragic incident occurred early Sunday morning in Mukurweini, Nyeri, when Simon Muchiri, a 45-year-old dairy farm worker, was hacked to death by unknown assailants at his home in Ikuma village. His wife, who tried to intervene, was left with serious injuries. Police reported that the attack happened around 2 a.m., and Muchiri’s body was found lying in a pool of blood.
Before the brutal murder, Muchiri had called his wife, informing her that he was being followed by three individuals armed with crude weapons. Upon reaching home, his wife reportedly heard the attackers demanding a share of a business deal worth Sh700,000. The attackers, who have not yet been identified, struck Muchiri on the head with a metal bar. As his wife attempted to assist him, she was stabbed in the right arm and struck on the forehead. Miraculously, the assailants fled the scene without stealing anything.
Detectives are investigating the motive behind the attack, with several leads currently being pursued. Authorities are particularly focused on the business deal the attackers allegedly argued with Muchiri about. A team of investigators has visited both the crime scene and Muchiri’s workplace as part of the ongoing probe. His body was moved to Mukurwe-Ini Sub County Mortuary for an autopsy.
In a separate incident, a fisherman in Homabay County drowned in Lake Victoria. William Juma, 56, had gone fishing alone at Dhuru Beach on Sunday night. His canoe was found floating without him, and his body was later discovered a few meters from the shore. Police have since moved his body to the Homabay County Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue for further investigation.
Both incidents have left the local communities shaken, and police are working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding these tragic events.
