DCI Granted 30-Day Detention for Kware Serial Killer Investigation

Collins Khalisia, the alleged perpetrator behind the Kware murders, has been granted a 30-day detention period by the Makadara Law Courts Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi. The decision came following an application by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), citing the need to complete extensive investigations into the case.

Khalisia, apprehended at a club in Soweto, Kayole, confessed to the brutal killings of 42 women spanning from 2022 to July 11, 2024, with his wife Imelda Judith Halenya reported as his first victim. The discovery of dismembered bodies concealed in sacks at the Kware dumpsite near Mukuru Kwa Njenga slum intensified public shock and concern over the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

Amin Mohammed, Director of Criminal Investigation, highlighted the critical nature of the ongoing investigation due to the substantial number of victims and the need to trace additional witnesses. The DCI emphasized that Khalisia’s detention was necessary to prevent the jeopardization of crucial evidence and witnesses, as well as to facilitate a mandatory mental examination crucial to the case.

“The investigative team is actively pursuing other suspects who remain at large,” stated the DCI, underlining the urgency in keeping Khalisia detained until all investigative leads are thoroughly explored.

The arrest of Khalisia, coinciding with his leisurely activities after watching the Euro 2024 football finals, led law enforcement to his single-room rental house in close proximity to the crime scenes. This discovery further underscores the proximity of the perpetrator to the scenes of the crimes, adding a chilling layer to the unfolding investigation.

The decision to extend Khalisia’s detention reflects the gravity of the case and the complexities involved in ensuring justice for the victims and their families. The DCI’s commitment to uncovering the full extent of Khalisia’s alleged crimes remains steadfast, with ongoing efforts to gather comprehensive evidence and bring all perpetrators to justice.
