Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua publicly apologized to President William Ruto for arriving late to a significant event due to an unexpected traffic delay. The incident occurred on Sunday morning as both leaders were scheduled to attend an Akurinu Church event in Nakuru.
Deputy President Gachagua was anticipated to travel to Nakuru via helicopter, but due to adverse humidity and airspace conditions, he was forced to alter his travel plans. Consequently, he departed later than planned and encountered a two-hour traffic jam between Longonot and Naivasha, leading to his late arrival.
Upon reaching the event, Gachagua addressed the congregation and extended his apologies to President Ruto. “Mr. President, I apologize to you for coming late. You know I am disciplined. I was a uniformed officer and in Government, I am the most disciplined person,” Gachagua stated. He emphasized that the delay was due to unforeseen issues with his transportation arrangements.
The event in Nakuru was the Akurinu Church’s 2024 prayers conference, a significant occasion for the sect. President Ruto, Deputy President Gachagua, and Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika were the guests of honor. The event also marked the launch of the Akurinu Sacco, aimed at fostering economic empowerment within the community.
During his address, Gachagua revealed that the Akurinu community had approached him to convey a prayer message to President Ruto. In response, President Ruto directed Gachagua to engage with the sect’s leadership, leading to the scheduling of the Nakuru Conference.
Despite the delay, the Deputy President’s presence was warmly received, and he took the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to the Akurinu community and their initiatives. The event underscored the government’s ongoing efforts to support and collaborate with various religious communities across Kenya.
The incident, while unfortunate, highlighted the unpredictability of travel and the importance of effective communication and contingency planning. Deputy President Gachagua’s prompt apology and explanation were well-received, maintaining the decorum and respect expected of leaders in such situations.
As the Akurinu Church continues its prayers conference and the newly launched Sacco begins its operations, the support from both national and local government leaders remains crucial. This event marks a continued effort to foster unity and progress within the diverse communities of Kenya.
