Diamond Platnumz has officially addressed the departure of one of Wasafi Records’ key artists, Mbosso, confirming the transition is nearly complete. Mbosso, whose real name is Mbwana Yusuf Kilungi, joined Wasafi in 2018 and quickly became one of its most successful acts. His exit marks another major shift in the Wasafi lineup, following in the footsteps of other artists such as Harmonize, Rayvanny, and Rich Mavoko.
In a recent statement, Diamond confirmed that the separation from Mbosso has been amicably agreed upon, highlighting the smooth negotiations between the artist and the label. The decision comes after rumors swirled about the artist’s exit, but Diamond has now made it clear that there is no animosity between the two parties. “We have had positive discussions with Mbosso regarding managing his own career, and everything has been finalized smoothly,” Diamond shared. He further emphasized that both parties had reached a mutual understanding, and any unofficial reports regarding the departure should be disregarded until an official statement is made.
Baba Levo, a close associate of Diamond, also weighed in on the matter, revealing that Mbosso is leaving the label without any financial obligations. This move is seen as a gesture of goodwill, showcasing the respect Mbosso has for Diamond and the Wasafi leadership. Diamond himself also reiterated that the artist’s exit was a result of mutual discussions, marking the end of an era at Wasafi Records.
Mbosso’s departure follows a familiar pattern seen with other former Wasafi artists. Harmonize, for example, paid a hefty Tsh500 million (Ksh22.4 million) to exit his contract, while Rayvanny reportedly settled with a staggering Tsh1.3 billion (Ksh68.9 million) to part ways with the label. In contrast, Rich Mavoko’s exit was embroiled in controversy, creating a strained relationship between him and Wasafi.
As Mbosso sets out on his own, he now joins the ranks of former Wasafi artists who have left to pursue independent careers. The label, however, is not slowing down, with plans to sign nine new artists in 2025. This new chapter for Mbosso is bound to spark interest in his future endeavors, as fans eagerly await his next move in the ever-evolving Tanzanian music scene.
