Diamond Platnumz’s ‘Komasava’ Remix: A 500 Million-Tsh Triumph

Diamond Platnumz, the Tanzanian Bongo Flava superstar, has once again demonstrated his unyielding determination to scale new heights in the music industry. The recent release of the ‘Komasava’ remix, featuring American pop and R&B sensation Jason Derulo, has captivated audiences and quickly ascended to the top of the charts in Kenya. The production of this music video, which reportedly cost at least Sh24 million (Tsh500 million), underscores Diamond’s commitment to excellence and his willingness to invest heavily in his craft.

The lavish budget for ‘Komasava’ was confirmed by Diamond’s longtime manager, SK Sallam, who detailed the extensive logistics and expenditures involved in bringing the project to fruition. The video was filmed in multiple locations, including the United Arab Emirates’ Dubai and Paris, each adding a unique flair to the final product. “The video was shot in different locations by three different video directors. There is a desert scene shot in Dubai, a scene shot in Paris, and another scene featuring both Diamond and Jason, also shot in Dubai,” Sallam explained.

The high production costs were not limited to the filming locations alone. South African Amapiano artists Chley and Khalil also made appearances in the remix, necessitating their travel to Dubai along with their team. This added another layer of complexity and expense, covering their accommodation and other logistical needs. “It wasn’t easy putting everything together because there wasn’t enough time to prepare well. We were given an ultimatum of two days to complete payments for the collaboration fees (by Derulo’s team), locations used, and permits to shoot at the locations. There were also the costs of setting up the various locations. Honestly, if we factor in every expense, the budget is way higher,” Sallam added.
