The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has appointed Dr. Gilda Odera as its Vice Chairperson, marking a key milestone in her illustrious career. SRC, in an official statement, expressed confidence that her appointment would strengthen the Commission’s efforts to execute its constitutional mandate of reviewing and setting salaries for public officers.

Dr. Odera’s appointment comes at a crucial time when the role of SRC is under increasing scrutiny, as the government seeks to align salaries with the fiscal realities of the country. With her vast experience in senior management, she is expected to bring a wealth of expertise in leadership and policy development to the Commission, ensuring that public wage structures remain fair, equitable, and sustainable.
Dr. Odera brings to the position a rich background in both the private and public sectors. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Arts in Leading Innovation and Change from the University of York St. John in the United Kingdom, and a PhD in Public Policy and Administration, with a focus on Leadership and Management.
Her career spans over 30 years, during which she has held senior positions in both the public and private sectors. Prior to her appointment at SRC, Dr. Odera was the first female National President of the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE), where she led various initiatives to improve the work environment for employees across the country. She has also served as a chief executive, board director, and policy leader, showcasing her adaptability and strong leadership abilities.
Dr. Odera’s appointment as Vice Chairperson of SRC is not just a personal achievement but also a step forward for gender equality in leadership positions, furthering the representation of women in key decision-making roles in Kenya. Her extensive experience in management, combined with her academic qualifications, equips her well to navigate the challenges that come with overseeing the remuneration of public officers in a rapidly changing economic environment.
As Dr. Odera steps into this new role, all eyes will be on her to deliver on SRC’s critical mandate and contribute positively to the discourse on public sector salaries in Kenya.
