Daytime temperatures are expected to soar above 30°C in the Coastal region, North-Eastern and North-Western Kenya, and parts of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and South-Eastern Lowlands. This trend will likely exacerbate heat-related challenges, particularly in areas already prone to arid conditions. Residents in these regions are advised to prepare for prolonged periods of intense heat by staying hydrated and avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
Night-Time Chill in the Highlands
While days will bring sweltering heat, nights in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley, and South-Eastern Lowlands will experience significant temperature drops. The mercury is expected to dip below 10°C in these areas, creating a stark contrast to the daytime warmth.
Variations Across Regions
Central Kenya, encompassing counties such as Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi, as well as eastern parts of Laikipia, will mostly experience sunny and dry conditions. However, a few days of light to moderate rainfall are possible, offering brief relief.
The Coastal Strip, including Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, is expected to remain sunny and dry for most of the month, with sporadic light to moderate rains. Similarly, the North-Eastern counties of Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera, and Marsabit are forecasted to have dry and sunny weather throughout January.
