Citizen TV’s senior court reporter Dzuya Walter has been elected as the new Vice Chairperson. The elections, held on Saturday, saw a significant shift in leadership as new faces stepped up to guide the association into its next chapter.
Walter’s election to the Vice Chair position comes as a recognition of his extensive experience and contributions to court reporting. His role will involve assisting the Chairperson in overseeing the association’s activities, supporting member needs, and ensuring the smooth operation of CRAK’s functions.
The election also saw Susan Muhindi of The Star newspaper appointed as Chairperson. Muhindi, known for her meticulous reporting and deep understanding of legal processes, will lead the association with a focus on growth and member engagement. Her vision for CRAK includes enhanced training programs, workshops, and exchange initiatives to elevate the standards and capabilities of court reporters across Kenya.
Sam Kiplagat, a well-regarded journalist, has been elected Secretary General. Kiplagat’s role will be crucial in managing the association’s internal affairs, communication, and administrative functions. His appointment reflects the association’s commitment to effective leadership and organization.
Carolyne Kubwa of People Daily has been named Treasurer, while Rodgers Oduor of Radio Ghetto will serve as Assistant Treasurer. Together, they will handle the association’s finances, ensuring transparency and accountability. Their joint statement underscores their dedication to their roles: “Thank you for trusting us with the Treasurer’s docket. We promise to work with the dedication and dignity it deserves. Let’s work together to better the association.”
In addition to these positions, Kamau Muthoni has been appointed as Chief Whip, a role that involves ensuring order within the association and assisting in implementing decisions and policies.
The newly elected leaders articulated their plans and commitments during their inaugural addresses. Chairperson Susan Muhindi expressed her vision for CRAK, stating, “Together we will work towards achieving the growth of the association and its members through trainings, workshops, and possibly exchange programs.” Her focus on professional development aims to foster a more knowledgeable and skilled network of court reporters.
Secretary General Sam Kiplagat conveyed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve, promising to give his all to the association. “I feel honoured to be elected to the position and promise to give the association my all,” Kiplagat stated, reflecting the collective spirit of dedication among the new leadership team.
The association’s patron, Supreme Court Justice Isaac Lenaola, was present during the elections and expressed his support for the new leadership. Justice Lenaola promised to collaborate with the Judiciary to provide CRAK with the necessary resources and knowledge. He acknowledged the importance of addressing complaints from Judges and Magistrates, noting, “A lot of complaints have been made by Judges and Magistrates, we can now at least have a one-on-one relationship. We shall do a lot together, I’m available to guide the association for as long as I can.”
This leadership transition marks a significant moment for CRAK as it embarks on a new phase of development under the guidance of its newly elected officers.
