In a significant crackdown on corruption and land grabbing, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has announced the recovery of Kes3.2 billion worth of illegally acquired public properties in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. Among the properties seized are a residential house hosting a judicial officer, lands allocated to various government entities including the State Department of Housing, Administration Police, Uasin Gishu Referral Hospital, County Fire Station, and County Assembly.
Key properties recovered include parcels in Eldoret Municipality, such as Eldoret Municipality/Block 4/53 and others, collectively valued at Kes3.255 billion. The recovered lands had been irregularly allocated to private entities instead of their rightful public owners.
Speaking during a workshop for Vihiga and Elgeyo Marakwet County Assemblies and County Public Service Boards, EACC’s Head of Communication, Mr. Eric Ngumbi, disclosed that investigations are ongoing for 97 other properties worth Kes7.4 billion in Eldoret, indicating a continued effort to combat corruption and reclaim public assets across the town.
The recoveries mark a significant step in Kenya’s fight against corruption, demonstrating the EACC’s commitment to restoring public trust and accountability in the management of public resources.
