This Thursday, East African University (TEAU) will host its 7th graduation ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s journey. The ceremony, scheduled for 8:00 a.m. at the university’s main campus in Kitengela, Kajiado County, will celebrate a record-breaking class of 2024. Hundreds of graduates from diverse disciplines will receive their degrees and diplomas, showcasing the academic excellence the university has come to be known for.
The event represents not only a personal achievement for the graduates but also a testament to the university’s growing influence in shaping the future of higher education in East Africa. According to TEAU’s management, this graduation is a transformative moment for both the institution and the region, reinforcing the role of East African universities in fostering innovation, leadership, and sustainable development.
A significant highlight of the ceremony will be the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Science degree to Joshua Kipchumba Chepkwony, popularly known as CK Joshua. His contributions to the field of education and his leadership in various community projects make him a deserving recipient of this prestigious honor.
A Legacy of Growth and Excellence
Prof. Thomas Senaji, the university’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academics, shared his pride in TEAU’s rapid growth and its increasing influence on the continent’s higher education landscape. He emphasized the university’s journey from its humble beginnings to its present-day stature, positioning it as a beacon of academic and social transformation.
“From our humble beginnings, we’ve grown into an institution reshaping our continent’s future. Our graduates represent the new face of African innovation. We’re not just conferring degrees but launching the next generation of African leaders who will drive sustainable development across our region,” Prof. Senaji stated.
TEAU’s emphasis on innovation, leadership, and practical knowledge has helped foster an environment where students not only acquire academic knowledge but also gain the skills needed to succeed in the ever-evolving job market. The university’s commitment to excellence has resulted in graduates who are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to the economies and societies of East Africa and beyond.
Personal Stories of Triumph
Among the graduates is 33-year-old Cindy Katete, a Welfare Officer at Kitengela Prisons, who will graduate with a diploma in Human Resources. Cindy’s journey at TEAU has been both challenging and rewarding. As a distance learning student, balancing her career with academic commitments was no small feat. However, Cindy credits the practical exposure she received at TEAU for transforming her understanding of the world and helping her expand her career potential.
“Balancing my career and studies as a distance learning student has been intricate; the practical exposure at TEAU has transformed my understanding of an evolving world,” Cindy shared. Her story is one of determination and ambition, as she believes her new qualification will propel her career to new heights.
Calvince Otieno, another graduate, is preparing to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Geography. Reflecting on his journey, Calvince expressed immense gratitude for the support he received from his family and well-wishers. His time at TEAU, he says, provided more than just an education it gave him a platform to dream bigger and aspire for greater achievements.
“The journey has been arduous, but I had the best environment. I can’t wait to see my family and friends join me from Nyanza for this momentous occasion,” Calvince said.
