The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has officially dispatched the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) result slips to Sub County Directors of Education (SCDEs) for distribution to the respective schools. In a notice issued on Wednesday, KNEC urged schools that presented candidates for the examination to liaise with their SCDEs to collect the result slips. This marks an important step in the process following the release of the results a few weeks ago.
A total of 962,512 candidates sat for the 2024 KCSE exams, and the release of the result slips is a significant milestone in the education calendar. This announcement follows a warning from KNEC to the public about fraudulent individuals posing as agents who can assist in mark upgrades or the processing of KCSE certificates. The council cautioned students and the public not to fall prey to such scams, stressing vigilance with the caption, “Beware of fraudsters. Do not be conned. KAA CHONJO!” KNEC also shared a screenshot of a fraudulent social media account to highlight the issue.
In terms of performance, the results reflect a notable achievement. A total of 246,391 candidates scored a C+ or higher, meeting the minimum grade for university entry. This indicates continued academic growth and opportunities for students to pursue higher education. Additionally, 1,693 candidates earned a straight A, a significant increase from 2023, when 1,216 candidates attained the highest grade. This improvement in the A plain category represents a 0.18 percent rise, with national schools accounting for 81.22 percent of the top-performing candidates. Other school categories, including extra county and private schools, also contributed to this success.
The overall performance of students also showed growth in the A- grade, with 7,743 students attaining this mark. A closer look at the gender distribution reveals that 2,840 girls and 4,903 boys earned A- grades. This is an increase of 0.8 percent compared to the 2023 exams, further indicating a positive trend in student performance.
However, the exam results were not without issues. A total of 840 candidates had their results cancelled due to exam malpractice, and 2,899 candidates had their results withheld pending investigations. Despite these challenges, the KCSE 2024 results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of both students and educators across Kenya.
The dispatch of result slips brings finality to the 2024 KCSE exams, marking another academic milestone for the country’s education sector.
