The body of 21-year-old University of Nairobi student Mercy Wanjiru Thairu has been found at the City Mortuary after she went missing on Friday following a night out with friends. Her family and friends, who had been searching for her since the weekend, traced her body to the morgue, where they learned that she had died in a road accident.
Police suspect that Wanjiru was hit by a vehicle near a car wash along Thika Road after being dropped off by a bodaboda rider. However, the circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, and her family is struggling to understand how she ended up on the highway.
Wanjiru, a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, reportedly blacked out after consuming alcohol during the night out. Her family believes she may have been drugged, as she was the only one in her group who lost consciousness. Investigators are now questioning those who were last seen with her and are working to trace the bodaboda rider who dropped her off at the location where she may have been fatally hit.
The tragic incident has sparked concerns about the safety of young people during nights out and the potential dangers they may face. As investigations continue, Wanjiru’s family is appealing for justice and clarity regarding the events that led to her death.
Meanwhile, Nairobi police are investigating two other mysterious deaths. In the first case, the body of a man identified as Gideon Munuve Syengo was found in a hotel room in Kamkunji. He had checked in on Saturday night, and his body was discovered on the floor by a cleaner the following day. Police recovered his personal belongings and an assortment of drugs at the scene. His body has been taken to the mortuary for an autopsy and further investigations.
In another case, the body of an unidentified man was found on the roadside in South B, Nairobi, on Saturday evening. The body had no visible injuries or identification documents. Authorities have moved it to the City Mortuary, where they are awaiting postmortem results and identification.
Police continue to investigate these cases to determine the causes of death and any potential foul play.
