The Human Resource Management Professionals Examinations Board (HRMPEB) has kicked off the April 2025 examination series with a significant expansion in its offerings the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) Diploma in Human Resource Management and the inaugural Craft Certificate in HR. These new programs began today, Tuesday, April 9, and will run until Wednesday, April 16, in various examination centers across Kenya.
This marks a major milestone for the HR profession in the country, aligning with Kenya’s broader agenda of implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in all levels of education. According to HRMPEB CEO, CHRP Margaret Nguu, the introduction of these CBET programs reflects a deliberate shift toward practical, skill-oriented training designed to better prepare HR professionals for the demands of the modern workplace.
“This initiative is a pivotal moment for the professionalization of human resource management education in Kenya, as it focuses not only on theoretical knowledge but also on practical, real-world application,” said Nguu. She emphasized that the CBET approach ensures that graduates are job-ready and capable of excelling in diverse HR functions.
The CBET model prioritizes the development of competencies that are directly applicable in real work environments. Unlike traditional education systems that rely heavily on rote learning and examinations, CBET assessments are based on a candidate’s ability to demonstrate actual skills and competencies in real-life HR scenarios.
Nguu encouraged all candidates undertaking the exams to embrace this innovative model, highlighting its potential to give them a competitive edge in both local and international job markets.
“Candidates will now be assessed based on their ability to demonstrate practical competencies in addition to their academic knowledge. We are committed to cultivating HR professionals who can turn theory into practice and contribute to organizational success,” she noted.
With the ongoing CHRP exams running concurrently, this dual rollout of CBET diploma and certificate programs is a transformative step for HR training in Kenya. It reflects a new era where knowledge and practical skills go hand-in-hand to meet the evolving needs of the workforce.
