Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that the government will construct modern hostels in all universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. This initiative, part of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s broader vision for educational transformation, seeks to provide students with safe, comfortable, and conducive spaces to study, acquire skills, and contribute to the socio-economic development of Kenya.
Speaking during President William Ruto’s official tour of Mt. Kenya, Kindiki outlined that the first project will be the construction of a state-of-the-art hostel at Tharaka University, which will accommodate up to 1,200 students. The Deputy President emphasized that this initiative will not only address the accommodation challenge but will also contribute to the completion of various stalled projects at the institution, including the administration block, roads leading to the university, and the enhancement of water and sanitation infrastructure.
The construction of modern hostels is seen as a critical step toward ensuring that students have access to adequate facilities that support their academic and personal growth. Kindiki stressed that these hostels will play a crucial role in ensuring that institutions remain financially stable, well-equipped, and offer courses that align with the government’s transformative agenda. The move is part of a larger effort to uplift education standards, making learning spaces more appealing and productive for students, especially in rural and underserved areas.
Kindiki’s remarks reflect the government’s commitment to the education sector, aiming to create an environment where students can thrive. The government’s interventions will include policy, administrative, and legislative measures to guarantee that institutions are not only financially viable but also provide relevant, high-quality education that prepares students to meet the challenges of an ever-evolving job market.
Through these initiatives, the Kenya Kwanza administration hopes to empower the youth, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to drive the country’s socio-economic transformation.
