The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has disbursed an additional Ksh 1.56 billion in tuition and upkeep loans to university students and trainees in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. This latest allocation, announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, was released on Friday, 14th March 2025.
According to the CS, the funds will benefit a total of 65,126 learners, with 31,263 TVET trainees and 33,863 university students receiving financial aid to support their education. Ogamba emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that students continue their academic and training programs without financial hindrance.
“On Friday, 14th March 2025, the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) disbursed Ksh 1.56 billion to students and trainees for tuition and upkeep. A total of 31,263 TVET trainees and 33,863 university students benefitted from these loan disbursements,” Ogamba confirmed in a statement.
With this latest funding, HELB has now disbursed a total of Ksh 32.7 billion in the 2024/2025 Financial Year. The funds have supported 195,522 TVET trainees and 390,612 university students, demonstrating the government’s commitment to improving access to higher education and skills development across the country.
Students and trainees who have benefited from the disbursement have been notified through HELB’s official communication channels and are advised to check their HELB portals for further details regarding their loan allocations.
The government has reiterated its dedication to providing financial support to students pursuing higher education, recognizing the crucial role that education and technical training play in national development. “The provision of this funding will ensure that student and trainee needs are met, enabling them to continue with their academic, training, and research programs without hindrance,” Ogamba stated.
