The Inuka Scholarship Programme has been a beacon of hope for underprivileged and physically challenged students across Kenya. Sponsored by the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), the initiative provides financial support for students to pursue secondary education, ensuring that bright but needy learners get an opportunity to complete their studies.
Since its inception, the programme has successfully supported 746 students from all 47 counties. Each year, 94 students one boy and one girl from each county are selected for the scholarship. KPC’s commitment to education and empowerment is evident through this structured annual adoption process.
Selection Process
To ensure fairness and that only deserving students benefit, the selection process is meticulously conducted. Vetting is carried out by the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) in collaboration with county officers. This rigorous process helps in identifying students from marginalized and vulnerable backgrounds who require financial assistance to pursue secondary education.
The scholarship opportunity is widely advertised in mainstream media, enabling interested applicants to access information about the application process. Students who meet the eligibility criteria are required to collect and submit their application forms at NCPWD county offices for assessment.
Impact and Success Stories
The Inuka Scholarship Programme has already produced promising results. In the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, 90 Inuka beneficiaries completed their secondary education. Notably, 37 of them scored C+ and above, making them eligible for university placement under the government-sponsored programme.
This milestone highlights the significance of the programme in transforming the lives of underprivileged students by opening doors to higher education and career opportunities. Through such initiatives, KPC not only empowers individuals but also contributes to the country’s long-term economic and social development.
A Commitment to Education and Inclusion
The Inuka Scholarship Programme underscores the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty and creating an inclusive society where students with disabilities are given equal opportunities. As the programme continues, more students will benefit, reinforcing KPC’s role in fostering a more educated and empowered generation.
By supporting the education of needy and physically challenged students, the Inuka Scholarship Programme is shaping Kenya’s future, one student at a time.
