The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened its portal for the placement of students in various institutions for the September 2025 intake. This initiative targets candidates who sat for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams and are seeking to enroll in degree programs.
Additionally, KUCCPS has extended the opportunity to KCSE candidates from as far back as the year 2000 who wish to apply for courses in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and Technical Trainer Colleges (TTCs). The portal is accessible via students.kuccps.net and applications are open until April 21, 2025.
In a notice issued on Friday, KUCCPS urged all eligible candidates to submit their applications before the deadline. “Attention 2024 KCSE Cohort! You can now apply for degree courses via the KUCCPS official portal. Deadline is April 21, 2025,” read the statement.
The placement service has listed 40 public universities, 29 private universities, and one Open University of Kenya as available institutions for applications. Candidates applying for government-sponsored university programs will also be eligible for financial aid through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB). Moreover, students applying to public TVET colleges will have access to government scholarships and HELB loans, with 263 public colleges and an additional 141 institutions—including Kenya Medical Training Colleges (KMTC) and ministry-affiliated colleges—available for application.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba had earlier announced that the portal would open in March 2025 as part of the government’s annual placement calendar. He emphasized that the initiative is crucial in ensuring a smooth transition for students into higher learning institutions.
KUCCPS, established in 2014, plays a key role in coordinating student placement in universities, TTCs, national polytechnics, and TVET institutes. It also provides career guidance, collects data on student placement, and advises the government on policies related to higher education.
During the 2024 KCSE exams, 962,512 candidates sat for the examinations, an increase from 899,453 in 2023. Of these, 246,391 attained the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above, making them eligible for placement in degree programs.
Students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and apply before the deadline to secure placement in their preferred courses and institutions.
