Transition to a Unified Digital System
In partnership with Marwadi Technologies of India, MKU is set to migrate from its current Students Management Information System (SMIS), ERP, and “My.MKU” platforms to a more unified University Integrated Resource Platform (UnIRP). This transition, which begins in February 2025, will be guided by an ICT steering committee, ensuring a smooth and phased implementation. The UnIRP system is designed to automate workflows for student management, finance, and administration, providing efficient real-time data access and improving user experience for students, faculty, and staff.
Embracing Smart Classrooms and Interactive Displays
As part of its digital transformation, MKU has introduced interactive displays and smart classrooms to enhance learning and e-learning experiences. The university recently invested Ksh 28 million in 18 interactive displays acquired from China. These displays allow lecturers to incorporate various teaching aids, improving virtual training effectiveness. Additionally, MKU plans to establish smart classrooms and recording studios across its campuses to enhance content development and delivery.
Commitment to AI and Immersive Learning
MKU has incorporated AI and machine learning into its curriculum, especially in computer science and IT courses. The university also employs immersive learning technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in specialized programs like medicine and engineering. These technologies allow students to engage in experiential learning, simulating real-life scenarios in a controlled environment.
Furthermore, AI-powered tools for personalized learning help track student progress and provide customized learning paths based on individual needs. Data analytics tools monitor academic performance, attendance, and engagement, enabling early intervention for students facing challenges.
