The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has been recognized for its outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion, clinching four prestigious awards at the 7th edition of the Annual National Diversity and Inclusion Awards and Recognition (DIAR) Gala Dinner and Award Ceremony 2025. The event, held at Sarit Expo Centre in Westlands, Nairobi, celebrated individuals and organizations championing inclusivity and equality in Kenya.
The ODPP emerged as the winner in the Best Statutory Commission and Authority on Ethnic Representation category, highlighting its efforts in ensuring a fair and diverse workforce. Additionally, it was named the first runner-up in the Best Statutory Commission and Authority on Equitable Allocation of Opportunities and Resources category, reinforcing its dedication to equitable representation in public service. The institution also secured the second runners-up position in the Best Statutory Commission and Authority on PWD Representation category, recognizing its initiatives in promoting the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
Furthermore, the ODPP was a finalist in the Best Statutory Commission and Authority on Good Governance, Transparency, and Accountability category, a testament to its unwavering commitment to ethical governance and adherence to the rule of law.
The awards, comprising a trophy and three framed certificates, were received by Alloys Kemo, the acting Secretary of Public Prosecutions, who reiterated the ODPP’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and ensuring non-discriminatory policies, particularly in its recruitment processes. Kemo reaffirmed the ODPP’s role as an equal opportunity employer guided by the principles of justice and fairness.
The DIAR Awards recognize state corporations, county governments, NGOs, corporate entities, and individuals who make significant contributions toward fostering inclusivity, environmental sustainability, and economic empowerment. The selection criteria involve internal and external research, as well as public reports such as the Status of Compliance of the Public Service with Values and Principles in Article 10 and 232 of the Constitution, published by the Public Service Commission.
This recognition follows a series of accolades for the ODPP. Just last year, the Director of Public Prosecutions was elected President of the Africa Prosecutors Association (APA) in Morocco. In addition, the DPP recently received the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) award from President William Ruto and was second in the CEO of the Year category at the 2025 Digital Transformation Public Sector Awards in Mombasa.
The ODPP’s latest achievement underscores its crucial role in fostering an inclusive and accountable justice system in Kenya.
