President William Ruto has pledged to personally sponsor 170 underprivileged girls from Nairobi County to pursue their education at the newly established PCEA Booth Girls’ High School – Ngong Forest. The initiative will see 10 vulnerable girls from each of the 17 constituencies in Nairobi benefit from this sponsorship.
Speaking at the official opening of the institution, Ruto emphasized the importance of providing quality education to students from humble backgrounds. He reiterated his commitment to increasing the school’s enrollment, ensuring that more students from disadvantaged backgrounds can access high-quality education.
“We have an opportunity to have those children from humble backgrounds in Langata and other parts of Nairobi come and study in this school,” Ruto stated.
In addition to his sponsorship, Ruto revealed that Nairobi MPs had agreed to support the initiative by sponsoring five more students each. The move is expected to further expand access to education for girls who might otherwise struggle to afford secondary schooling.
The President was accompanied by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, and other leaders. He also praised the efforts of sponsors and stakeholders who contributed to the construction of the school.
PCEA Booth Girls’ High School – Ngong Forest was built through a partnership between the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) and the Booth Foundation, a charity organization committed to providing affordable, world-class Christian education. The school aims to create an environment where students can learn, innovate, and develop leadership skills within a Christian framework.
This initiative is part of a broader vision by PCEA and the Booth Foundation, which has seen the establishment of other Booth Schools of Excellence across Kenya. These include PCEA Ongata Booth Girls of Excellence, PCEA Kanjeru Booth Girls High School, and PCEA Mai-Ahii Booth Boys High School. The schools offer rigorous academics, extracurricular activities, and a strong focus on community service.
President Ruto’s sponsorship is expected to significantly impact the lives of these young girls, providing them with an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty through education and skill development. As part of his continued development tour, Ruto is set to visit Langata and Kibra constituencies, reinforcing his commitment to uplifting education standards in Nairobi.
