University students from the Mt. Kenya region, including those from the University of Nairobi, have expressed their gratitude to President William Ruto for nominating Geoffrey Ruku, the Mbeere North Member of Parliament, as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital, and Special Programs.
Students, particularly those from semi-arid areas like Mbeere North, have lauded Ruku’s contribution to the education sector, highlighting his efforts to alleviate financial struggles that have hindered academic progress for many. They acknowledged his role in increasing bursary allocations from Ksh 5,000 to between Ksh 8,000 and Ksh 10,000, significantly easing the financial burden on families and enabling more students to access education.
“For years, education in Mbeere North lagged behind due to various challenges,” noted one university student. “However, Ruku’s leadership has been transformative, particularly in making education more accessible. His efforts to reduce school fees for day scholars have greatly relieved many families.”
In addition to bursary increments, students praised Ruku for his pivotal role in advocating for Junior Secondary School (JSS) funding and enhancing educational infrastructure. They believe these efforts have been instrumental in improving learning conditions for students in marginalized areas.
“Under his leadership, we have seen tangible progress in JSS funding and the development of crucial educational facilities, significantly improving the learning environment,” said another student.
Beyond education, students are optimistic that Ruku’s new role as Cabinet Secretary will further his commitment to public service and national development. They view his appointment as a stepping stone to greater policy implementations that will benefit the youth and education sectors nationwide.
“His dedication to improving educational access and infrastructure gives us hope for the future,” added another student. “We trust that his tenure as Cabinet Secretary will lead to more development opportunities and a better public service system for all.”
With his extensive background in education and public service, students believe that Ruku’s appointment will bring about positive transformations that will not only benefit Mbeere North but the entire nation. They remain hopeful that his leadership will open more doors for youth empowerment, better educational policies, and improved public services across the country.
