Elected Leaders Advocate Renaming Masimba High School to Honor Former Education CS Ezekiel Machogu

Elected leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties have proposed renaming Masimba High School in his honor. This suggestion was brought forward during a dinner meeting where Solicitor-General Shadrach Mose was the chief guest.

During the meeting, the leaders highlighted the remarkable contributions of Machogu during his tenure as the Education CS. Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda articulated the sentiment of the group, stating, “Let us learn to appreciate our heroes when they are alive by naming some areas like streets, buildings, or institutions to reflect their input.”

The proposal has garnered substantial support among local leaders. Nominated Senator Essy Okenyuri endorsed the idea and committed to championing it. Okenyuri emphasized the importance of recognizing and celebrating the contributions of influential figures within the community. She also urged the Abagusi Council of Elders to install Machogu as the region’s patron, citing his extensive experience in public service as a valuable asset for linking the community to broader national and global networks.

The leaders underscored the necessity of working collectively to prioritize educational development as a means of addressing the region’s socio-economic and political challenges. They resolved to enhance collaboration and focus on long-term educational projects, viewing them as vital vehicles for regional liberation and progress.

The dinner meeting also served as a platform for discussing the broader political and social landscape of the country. The leaders reflected on the recent Gen Z anti-Financial Bill protests, acknowledging the unity that emerged in their aftermath. They pledged to maintain this unity from the grassroots level to strengthen their bargaining power for equitable national resource distribution.

The proposed renaming of Masimba High School is a testament to the high regard in which Ezekiel Machogu is held within the community. His tenure as Education CS was marked by significant strides in the education sector, and the leaders believe that commemorating his contributions through such an honor is both fitting and necessary.

In summary, the initiative to rename Masimba High School after Ezekiel Machogu reflects a broader movement to recognize and celebrate local heroes while focusing on educational development as a key strategy for regional growth. The leaders’ united stance and their commitment to working together underscore their determination to address the socio-economic and political imbalances in the region. By championing educational projects and honoring significant figures like Machogu, they aim to create a legacy of progress and empowerment for future generations.
