Empowered Citizens Against Poverty and Partners Donate Essential Items to Nyamira County Pupils

Primary school pupils in Nyamira County have received crucial donations, including sanitary towels, boxers, exercise books, and pens. This initiative was spearheaded by the Empowered Citizens Against Poverty (ESCAP) Foundation, in collaboration with the Ramichani Initiative and AGC Tenwek Mission Hospital. The event took place on Sunday, July 21, at Sironga Secondary School in Bonyamatuta Ward.

Douglas Onkeo, CEO of the ESCAP Foundation, emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting students living with disabilities and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Speaking at the issuance ceremony, Onkeo stated, “We provide devices, learning materials, and walking rods for the blind to assist them and people with other body impairments in coping with their physical challenges.” This initiative is part of ESCAP’s broader mission to ensure that all students, regardless of their physical or economic status, have access to quality education and necessary resources.

Onkeo also made a heartfelt appeal to parents of children with disabilities, urging them not to keep their children hidden at home. “Education adds value to their lives,” he said, encouraging parents to enroll their children in school to provide them with opportunities for growth and development.

The day-long activity saw the distribution of more than 50 assorted materials aimed at aiding people living with disabilities in the area. The collaboration between ESCAP, Ramichani Initiative, and AGC Tenwek Mission Hospital underscores the importance of joint efforts in addressing the needs of vulnerable populations.

Mrs. Ran, the founder of the Ramichani Initiative, highlighted the organization’s extensive efforts across the county. “We have been going around the whole county supporting both old and young people living with disabilities. Since our operations began, we have issued 10,000 devices countrywide,” she said. The Ramichani Initiative prioritizes persons living with disabilities (PLWD), particularly young school-going children and their parents, ensuring they receive the necessary support to thrive in their educational pursuits.

Beneficiary Schools and Items Distributed

The primary schools that benefitted from this generous donation include Nyairicha Special School, Sironga Primary School, and Marindi Primary School. The items distributed are not only vital for the students’ daily needs but also play a crucial role in promoting hygiene, comfort, and academic success.

Sanitary towels and boxers help in maintaining personal hygiene, which is essential for the students’ health and self-esteem. Exercise books and pens are fundamental tools for learning, enabling students to engage actively in their education.

Promoting Inclusive Education

The event at Sironga Secondary School was a poignant reminder of the power of community and the impact of inclusive education. By providing essential resources and advocating for the rights of children with disabilities, organizations like ESCAP and the Ramichani Initiative are paving the way for a more equitable and supportive educational environment.

This initiative also highlights the importance of public and private sector partnerships in addressing social challenges. AGC Tenwek Mission Hospital’s involvement in the donation drive exemplifies how healthcare institutions can extend their impact beyond medical care, contributing to the holistic well-being of the community.

A Call to Action

As the beneficiaries of this initiative begin to utilize these essential items, the positive ripple effects will be felt across Nyamira County. The support provided not only meets immediate needs but also empowers students to pursue their educational goals with confidence.

The success of this event serves as a call to action for other organizations and individuals to contribute to similar efforts. By coming together to support vulnerable populations, communities can create a nurturing environment where every child has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their circumstances.

In conclusion, the collaborative efforts of ESCAP, Ramichani Initiative, and AGC Tenwek Mission Hospital in Nyamira County demonstrate the profound impact of targeted interventions and community support. This initiative not only addresses the immediate needs of students but also fosters an inclusive and supportive educational environment, paving the way for a brighter future for all.
