Ugandan music legend Bebe Cool has officially released his latest single, “Motivation,” the second track from his highly anticipated album, Break the Chains, set for release in 2025. The new song signals an evolution in his musical journey, embracing the Afrobeats sound while staying true to his signature style.
Unlike his past hits, which leaned heavily on reggae and dancehall influences, “Motivation” immerses listeners in the rhythmic pulse of Afrobeats. The track, produced by the Ugandan duo Bushington (George Kagoda) and Melanin Boy, features smooth vocals and a minimalistic yet captivating beat. Lyrically, it explores themes of love, inspiration, and devotion, making it a deeply personal and emotionally resonant song.
The accompanying music video, directed by renowned South African filmmaker Garrick Williams, further enhances the song’s theme. The visuals elegantly depict love beyond appearances and material wealth, showcasing Bebe Cool and his love interest as equal partners in both romance and business. The video’s storytelling aligns seamlessly with the song’s message, emphasizing shared dreams and commitment.
To mark the release of “Motivation,” Bebe Cool launched Motivation Week in Uganda, a new annual initiative aimed at celebrating individuals who inspire others across different fields. The initiative, which takes place in the week following Valentine’s Day, seeks to create meaningful conversations around resilience and motivation.
During a roundtable discussion with media personalities, Bebe Cool reflected on his journey in music and the personal drive that has kept him pushing forward. He shared anecdotes about his early struggles, including his decision to leave Uganda for Nairobi in pursuit of a career in music. He noted, “Motivation is key to success, no matter your age and level in life. I have children who are growing up, and my peers and I still have more to achieve.”
Bebe Cool’s journey in the industry began in 1997 when he moved to Nairobi, where he became one of the first artists signed by Ogopa Deejays, a pioneering record label in the East African music scene. In 2004, he collaborated with Kenya’s Necessary Noize, forming the East African Bashment Crew, which gained continental success with hits like “Africa Unite” and “Fire Anthem.”
With “Motivation” following the success of his first single, “Circumference,” Break the Chains is shaping up to be an album that will push the boundaries of African music. As 2025 approaches, fans eagerly anticipate what Bebe Cool has in store for them.
