Nairobi is set to host one of the biggest musical events of the year as Grammy Award-winning superstar Burna Boy headlines the highly anticipated MadfunXperience at Uhuru Gardens on Saturday, March 1. The concert, which will also feature performances from Kenya’s Charisma, Bensoul, and South African Amapiano DJ and producer Virgo Deep, is expected to draw thousands of fans, making security and traffic management a top priority for the authorities.
With past concerts in Kenya sometimes marred by security lapses, the police and event organizers are leaving nothing to chance. Lang’ata Sub-County Police Commander Monica Kimani has assured attendees of stringent security measures to ensure their safety throughout the event.
“There will be no room for any aspect of criminality. We will also secure hotels where guests are staying and ensure smooth traffic flow,” she stated.
To prevent past mistakes, authorities have increased the number of both uniformed and undercover officers in and around the venue. Ms. Kimani further warned that individuals caught with fraudulently acquired tickets will be arrested and prosecuted. “The image of our country, both locally and internationally, depends on how we carry ourselves,” she emphasized.
Law enforcement agencies will work closely with the event’s organizers, Madfun, to provide a safe environment. Security checks at entry points will be strict, and surveillance will be heightened to deter any form of hooliganism or criminal activity.
As thousands of concertgoers head to Uhuru Gardens, significant traffic congestion is expected on Lang’ata Road, Likoni Road, and the link from the Southern Bypass to Likoni Road via the Carnivore grounds. Police have advised motorists to anticipate delays and plan their routes accordingly.
Gates will open at 3 PM and close at 9 PM, with no attendees allowed entry after the cutoff time. Given this timeline, concertgoers are encouraged to arrive early to avoid last-minute inconveniences.
