Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy is at the center of social media drama after allegations surfaced that he failed to fulfill a promise of buying a Lamborghini for Lagos socialite Sophia Egbueje. The controversy has allegedly led to his girlfriend, international pop star Chloe Bailey, unfollowing him.
The issue came to light after a 40-minute leaked audio recording on February 27, 2025, in which Sophia detailed how Burna Boy had promised her a luxury vehicle but never delivered. According to her, she was introduced to Burna Boy in 2024 by influencer Ama Reginald and his associate King Manny. Initially hesitant, she was eventually persuaded by Burna Boy’s reputation for generosity citing how he previously gifted his ex-girlfriend Stefflon Don a Rolls Royce Cullinan worth approximately $500,000.
Sophia claims that after meeting Burna Boy at a club, they exchanged contacts and started partying together. At one point, they visited a Lamborghini dealership, where he allegedly reassured her he would buy her one. However, he later ghosted her, forcing her to purchase the car herself. “I even went to see the Lamborghini, he promised me that he will buy it, and I believed him, only for him to disappoint me. So I went and bought the Lamborghini with my own money,” she stated.
The revelation has seemingly shaken Burna Boy’s relationship with Chloe Bailey. The two had been publicly displaying their romance, from lavish dinner dates to exchanging matching luxury watches. Their chemistry had even led to speculation about a potential engagement. However, with Sophia’s claims suggesting that Burna Boy was involved with her while dating Chloe, fans are questioning the timeline of events.
On February 28, Burna Boy appeared to respond indirectly by posting a video featuring a luxury watch and a Lamborghini, along with a freestyle where he sang, “I no buy Lambo, is that why you are shouting?” While the singer has yet to make a direct statement, the controversy continues to trend, leaving fans eager to see how it unfolds.
