Kenyan comedian DJ Shiti has shared his reasons for not venturing into politics, highlighting the deep-rooted systemic issues and his personal values that clash with the political world. During a candid conversation, he explained that he would never consider joining politics, citing the prevailing corruption and dishonest practices in the system. According to Shiti, politics in Africa is often about personal gain, with people primarily focused on accumulating wealth rather than serving the people. He also expressed concern about the public’s tendency to tolerate lies, adding that his commitment to truth would make it impossible for him to thrive in such an environment.
Shiti’s disillusionment with politics is compounded by his belief that politicians today are more concerned with defending the government rather than addressing the needs of the public. He emphasized that there is a disconnect between the leaders and the citizens they are supposed to serve, making the political arena an unattractive prospect for him.
In addition to discussing his views on politics, Shiti opened up about his personal struggles, revealing that he had taken a step back from the entertainment scene to cope with significant family and personal challenges. One of the most difficult moments for him was when his father was diagnosed with stage 1 prostate cancer. Despite his financial contributions to his father’s treatment, Shiti’s father chose to seek prayers from pastors instead of pursuing medical intervention. By the time Shiti intervened and transferred his father to another hospital, the cancer had progressed to stage 3.
This experience profoundly affected Shiti’s life, even leading to the loss of his job. As if that wasn’t enough, some of the family members he had supported financially, including those he had helped educate, turned against him, further complicating an already difficult situation. Reflecting on this, Shiti lamented how people today seem to value money more than relationships or loyalty, something he believes has become a sad reality in modern society.
Despite these setbacks, Shiti continues to make his mark in the entertainment world. His success can be attributed to his ability to draw from real-life experiences, creating raw, relatable content that resonates with his audience. He spends a significant amount of time researching and developing his characters and storylines to ensure authenticity in his work.
Regarding the online hate he sometimes receives, Shiti has a lighthearted approach. He shared that he simply blocks any negativity, but with a humorous twist, suggesting that what some might perceive as hate is actually overwhelming love. His perspective is that people can sometimes become so enamored with him that they don’t know how to express their admiration properly.
Shiti also addressed some of the challenges facing the entertainment industry, particularly the lack of recognition for the work involved in the profession. He noted that many people fail to treat entertainment as a legitimate career, which negatively impacts the entire industry.
Recently, Shiti made a return to acting, and he expressed great optimism about the new project he is working on. He described the show as “fire,” confident that it will capture the audience’s attention and become a major hit. When asked about the financial aspect of his new project, he confirmed that the show pays well, adding that Butita, the producer, compensates the cast generously.
