Gospel singer Emmy Kosgei recently opened up about her love and admiration for her husband, Abselm Madubuko, during a church event in Kenya. The couple, who had traveled for a conference, made an appearance at Jubilee Christian Church, where Abselm had the opportunity to preach.
Dressed in matching all-black outfits, Emmy took a moment to appreciate her husband publicly, listing the many qualities she adores about him. She described herself as a “lucky girl,” emphasizing how her life changed for the better after marrying him.
“Help me celebrate my husband. I am like this because he has held and taught me. He has shown me the way. He has fathered me,” she said, her voice full of admiration. “I found too many things in one package.”
Emmy went on to say that her husband has supported her unconditionally, lifting her up and encouraging her to stay true to herself. She joked about how her hairstyle has remained the same since marriage because he doesn’t pressure her to look a certain way. “He has married me from a place of rest. He doesn’t insist I must tie my hair, or wear a hat, or plait it. He tells me, just stay the way you are.”
She also praised him for allowing her to serve God fully and travel the world for her ministry and career. Reflecting on the early days of their marriage, she recalled how opportunities started pouring in as soon as they tied the knot. “In our first year of marriage, I was appointed the Tourism Ambassador for Kenya, both nationally and globally. That meant traveling a lot, and he said, ‘I let you be. Become what God has called you to be.’”
Emmy’s message also pushed back against some traditional stereotypes often placed on pastors’ wives. She rejected the notion that they should be confined to the background, merely sitting with the congregation and avoiding leadership roles. Instead, she shared how her husband pushes her to be active—as a preacher, an artist, and a board member—because he believes in her potential.
“There is no competition, there is no pressure, and there is no religion that says a pastor’s wife should just sit quietly. He encourages me to get in and out, go to the airport, do my ministry, and return home in peace,” she said with pride.
Her heartfelt words sparked positive reactions online, with many people admiring the mutual respect and freedom within their relationship. Some users expressed their desire for a similar kind of supportive and loving partner, while others praised the couple’s example of godly union and teamwork.
In a previous interview, Abselm shared how he met Emmy. Their paths first crossed at a conference in Mombasa, where she caught his attention. Later, his son also showed interest in Emmy, prompting him to seek her contact information. At that time, Emmy was in another relationship, and she would often talk to Abselm about the struggles she faced. What started as a simple effort to invite her to perform eventually turned into a beautiful love story that continues to inspire many.
