Anselm Madubuko, the Nigerian pastor and General Overseer of Revival Assembly Church, has opened up about how he met his Kenyan wife, Emmy Kosgei. He shared that their first encounter took place in Mombasa while he was preaching at a friend’s church. At the time, he was still married and had no idea that Emmy was a well-known gospel artist.
He recalled sitting next to Emmy before she took the stage to sing. When he heard her voice, he was deeply moved and likened her talent to that of the legendary Miriam Makeba. Curiously, he asked about her and was informed that she was one of the leading figures in gospel music.
After losing his wife in 2012, he initially decided not to remarry. However, his son was the first person to suggest the idea of marrying Emmy. The thought had never crossed his mind as they were not friends at that point. It wasn’t until he had a personal revelation that he began considering marriage again. He said that one day, while deep in thought, he felt a divine message telling him that he should find a young woman to be his wife.
Madubuko revealed that convincing Emmy to consider marriage was not easy. At that time, she was deeply religious and had a firm stance on many matters. She frequently traveled to Nigeria to minister at his church, and his congregation quickly grew fond of her. However, despite their growing bond, Emmy was in another relationship. She confided in him that she was unhappy, as her boyfriend was causing her distress.
Madubuko used this opportunity to subtly encourage her to reconsider what she wanted in a partner. He posed the question of whether she would still want to marry someone who was already bringing her stress even before marriage. His intention was to make her reflect on the importance of choosing a partner who truly loved and supported her.
Some time later, she informed him that she had broken up with her boyfriend. Seizing the moment, he booked a flight that had a stop in Kenya before heading to London. During his stay in Kenya, he met with Emmy and expressed his desire to marry her. However, she was not immediately receptive to the idea. She had always looked up to him as a spiritual figure, making it difficult for her to view him in a romantic light.
Their age difference was another factor that made her hesitant. With a 22-year gap between them, Emmy had her reservations. But over time, Madubuko managed to assure her of his genuine love and commitment. Eventually, she accepted his proposal, and they embarked on their journey together as husband and wife.
Despite what some might assume, Madubuko never saw their age difference as an issue. He strongly believed that love and compatibility transcended age. He also showered Kenyan women with praises, dismissing claims that they are not submissive. In his opinion, they are wonderful partners and make great wives.
Reflecting on his past, Madubuko admitted to having lived a life filled with many relationships before he became saved. He even recalled how one of his former girlfriends attempted to take her own life after he ended things with her. However, his faith transformed his life, leading him to find stability and fulfillment in his marriage to Emmy.
Today, Emmy and Madubuko celebrate their love openly, showing the world that their bond is strong despite their age gap. Emmy, now 44, cherishes her husband deeply and frequently expresses her appreciation for him. She refers to him as her source of support, protection, and love. On his birthdays, she never fails to shower him with heartfelt messages, emphasizing how much he means to her.
Madubuko, now 66, equally adores his wife and is never shy about demonstrating his affection. He remains grateful for the day he met Emmy, believing that she was a divine gift meant to bring joy and companionship into his life. Their love story is a testament to faith, patience, and the belief that true love can blossom even in unexpected circumstances.
