Tanzanian singer Harmonize has spoken out about his absence from the Mad Experience concert in Nairobi, where he was expected to perform alongside Nigerian superstar Burna Boy. In a recent Instagram post, Harmonize clarified why he could not take the stage, despite confirming his attendance and his fans eagerly awaiting his performance.
According to the ‘Uno’ hitmaker, his absence was purely logistical. “The only reason why I could not hop on stage and perform is simply because I did not do the sound check, so they could not just allow me to enter the stage just like that. It does not happen that way,” he explained.
Harmonize emphasized that had he participated in the sound check, he would have had the opportunity to showcase his talent to Kenyan fans. His explanation, however, did not stop the drama surrounding his no-show, as fellow artist Willy Paul took the opportunity to throw shade at him.
Willy Paul, notorious for his feuds with foreign artists, did not hold back in a cryptic Instagram post that many speculated was aimed at Harmonize. “Kama nilifukuza babako, wewe nani? Nitakupiga ukonde. The only gang I recognize is mbuzi gang, na huku tunapiga mbilikimo,” he wrote. The statement ignited speculation among netizens, with some suggesting that Willy Paul had a hand in Harmonize missing his performance.
Social media was abuzz with reactions to Willy Paul’s post, with users commenting:
“Willy Paul’s plan worked.”
“Hivi yani Pozee kakuingizisha baridi?”
“This has Willy Paul written all over it.”
Despite the controversy, Harmonize did not respond to Willy Paul’s jabs. Instead, he focused on applauding Burna Boy’s spectacular performance. The Tanzanian singer was highly impressed by Burna Boy’s stage presence and the professionalism of his team.
“It was really great to witness such a performance, unbelievable. Not just watching him perform, but I am proud of him because of the level he brought from the sound equipment to the team’s organization. Burna Boy was on stage exactly at 10:30 p.m., as scheduled, which is incredible. They were very serious, and East Africa, seeing this, we have definitely learned something,” Harmonize stated.
Interestingly, before arriving in Kenya, Harmonize had issued a stern warning to any artist attempting to sabotage his visit, promising they would face challenges. Whether or not his warning was directed at Willy Paul remains unclear, but the online debate suggests the drama is far from over.
