Renowned gospel artist and human rights activist Juliani has opened up about the differences in his parenting style compared to his upbringing, as well as the contrasting approaches he and his wife, Lillian Ng’ang’a, take in raising their nearly 3-year-old son, Utheri. In a heartfelt revelation, Juliani shared how he encourages his son to freely explore the world, a stark departure from the strict discipline he experienced as a child.
Juliani, who is also a father to a daughter with actress Brenda Wairimu, reflected on his childhood, where activities like playing in the rain or getting dirty often resulted in harsh punishments. “These kinds of behaviors got us a World War 3-type beating back in the day, where a belt and pain became our next of kin,” he recalled. However, as a modern-day parent, Juliani finds joy in allowing his son to embrace his curiosity and imagination.
In a heartwarming video shared on social media, Utheri is seen lying in puddles of water and playing on their rooftop, a moment Juliani described as deeply fulfilling. “To this generation, seeing your child enjoy the sun and their environment is fulfilling,” he said. However, he humorously admitted that such playtime is only permitted when he is in charge of watching Utheri. His wife, Lillian, is stricter and less inclined to allow their toddler to engage in such messy adventures.
Juliani also shared a touching father-son bonding moment from his 40th birthday on April 22, 2024. While meditating in the rain for 30 minutes, Utheri joined him, playfully hugging him. Since then, the little boy has been fascinated by the rain. “Whenever it rains, he wants to go out,” Juliani said, highlighting the special connection they share.
The rapper humorously acknowledged that his parenting style shifts depending on who is around. “When his mom is around, I behave. But when it’s just the two of us, like the Gs we are—Kaende kaende!” he quipped, emphasizing the fun and adventurous moments he shares with his son when Lillian isn’t watching.
Juliani’s reflections offer a glimpse into the evolving dynamics of parenting, where breaking generational cycles and embracing gentle, joyful approaches are becoming the norm. His story resonates with many modern parents striving to create a nurturing environment for their children while balancing differing parenting styles with their partners.
